It's a mystery to me why Julian Assange isn't already rotting in the back of a cell at Guantanamo Bay. And perhaps he would be if we had grownups like Rep. Peter King (R-NY) in charge.
Instead we have Janet Incompetano allegedly protecting us from foreign threats by strip-searching nuns and seizing web sites which advertise counterfeit NFL jerseys. It occurs to me that if Homeland Security is so gung-ho to seize some web sites they might want to start with wikileaks.org. And if it was up to me they'd keep right on going with nytimes.com. That's right, in my mind Pinch Sulzberger and his co-conspirators at the New York Times are guilty of treason. Several times over.
Pre-emptively, we're lectured about the First Amendment, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom of the Press. Uh, huh. Curiously Pinch wasn't nearly so concerned about those principles when it came to the Climategate emails. The privacy of global warming cheerleaders and shadowy origins of the emails outweighed "public interest" and he buried them.
That's right, when it comes to illegally obtained documents, the Times has a double-standard. They only defer to privacy and propriety until there's an opportunity to embarrass the United States and help our enemies. Then it's the Pentagon Papers all over again, except this time they managed to give Barry a nice sloppy tongue-bath along the way.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The apparent source of the leak is once again disgraced flaming homosexual and former intelligence analyst Bradley Manning. PFC Manning had top-secret clearance. After a spat with his boyfriend he used it to steal classified documents because he was mad at the US for "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". We all know how much the Times despises DADT.
Ergo, sympathy for Manning and his partner-in-buggery Julian Assange. The Times has always had a soft spot for homosexual traitors; anyone here remember their kid-glove coverage of Guy Burgess and the Cambridge Five? And our enemies have long known that highly-placed homosexuals were ripe for exploitation. The Soviets were particularly adept at turning gay men into spies for Mother Russia. Is al Qaeda is picking up where they left off?
Of course the Big Question now is how do we respond? I'm not optimistic that anyone in Obama's White House is up to the task of uncovering the source and plugging the leak. Somebody over there needs to wake up and realize that Loose Lips Sink Ships. Julian Assange ought to be Public Enemy Number One. Wanted, Dead or Alive.
UPDATE 29 Nov 2010 11:23:
Pat Austin has similar thoughts.
And one of her commenters asked why the CIA hasn't simply killed Assange. Two words — Leon Panetta. Leon's a bureaucrat, not a warrior. He was on the Clinton team that diddled and fiddled when presented with the opportunity to take out Osama bin Laden. He's gonna risk the approbation of the intellectual elites over an Australian poofter?
UPDATE 30 Nov 2010 11:32:
Why didn't I think of this? It's brilliant!
