The kids at school had already heard by the time I picked Sophie up from aftercare. Their teachers were in a somber mood and led the children in a short prayer for the victims of yesterday's Boston bombing.
"Why Daddy?", Sophie asked. She was born 3 months after 9/11. This is her first realtime exposure to terrorism. It probably won't be her last. When Fox News reported the first confirmed death was an 8 year old boy she lost it, and cried.
The death of a child is indeed a tragedy. Unless of course it's under the guise of "reproductive health." Then it's Not News.
Anyway, Stacy McCain is right — at this stage of the investigation we don't know anything yet. Motive? Unknown. Perpetrator(s)? Unknown. Potential followups or copycats? Unknown, but it's prudent to be wary.
Of course we can probably rule out disgruntled Yankees fans, even though the Sawx were playing less than half a mile away at the time. And right on cue followers of The Religion Of Peace™ started cheering the carnage. It's what they do, it's who they are. Then they scream bloody murder when the NYPD puts their secret mosques under surveillance. Yeah, show a little respect, capiche?
There's a 20 year old Saudi national being questioned by the FBI. Chances are he's not a recently converted Born Again Christian, IYKWIMAITYD. And they raided what is probably his apartment in a run-down Section 8 hellhole. It's the kind of place where nobody asks too many questions and there's so much illegal activity going on that one more shady character would fit right in. In other words, it's the perfect terrorist safe house.
Hey, if CNN can speculate about Right-Wing Extremist Groups, or Nick Kristof of The New York Times can blame Congressional Republicans blocking Barry's ATF nominee, while the ever-demented Chris Matthews fulminates against imaginary anti-tax hysteria, then I can hypothesize too.
Except, I don't know anything yet. And neither do they. I just hope we catch
the bastards who did this, and fry 'em.
