Remember Patricia Jannuzzi? She dared to post Catholic teachings on Facebook, and the homofascists went berserk. Initially it was reported that she'd been fired from her teaching job at Immaculata Catholic High School. But happily, that turns out to be incorrect.
Patricia Jannuzzi, the veteran Immaculata High School teacher suspended for her anti-gay Facebook posts, will be reinstated immediately, school principal Jean Kline said in a letter dated Friday.
Jannuzzi, a 33-year theology teacher at Immaculata, was forced by Immaculata to deactivate her Facebook page after several alumni started circulating screen shots of her sharply worded posts against gay marriage and gay rights. Two days later, the school placed her on administrative leave.
Don't you just love how the supposedly impartial media frames her statements? "Anti-gay." "Sharply worded posts against gay marriage and gay rights." As if she were evil. Or worse.
Let's put it into the proper perspective. Her postings were Pro-Catholic. It's no secret that Holy Mother Church opposes same-sex "marriage." It shouldn't be controversial for a teacher in a Catholic school to articulate that opposition. Especially a religion teacher.
If Immaculata isn't teaching Catholic doctrine in their religion classes, what exactly are they teaching?
One is left to wonder. Because the school continues to dance around the tenets of our faith.
Immaculata High School has reached an understanding with Mrs. Patricia Jannuzzi. It is the School's position that a Catholic school teacher must always communicate the faith in a way that is positive and never hurtful. Tone and choice of words matter and I trust Mrs. Jannuzzi's stated promise to strive always to teach in a spirit of truth and charity.
From the beginning this was a personnel and not a theological issue. We are now and always have been united in our understanding and commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church. By agreement with all parties involved, there will be no further comment on the issue.
Right. It's not "theological." And you can't talk about it.
The letter goes on to say that teachers have been told that if the issue comes up in the classroom, students will be told "this was a personnel issue and not one about theology" and there should be no further discussion about it. Kline encouraged parents to tell students the same thing if the issue comes up at home.
"Gentlemen! You can't fight in here! This is the War Room!"
Since when are parents prohibited from talking about Catholic theology? By a Catholic school no less? That's disgraceful. And wrong.
What we need is more emphasis on morality. Instead we get vaccillation. And appeasement.
So let me introduce some clarity.
The Catholic Church thus teaches: "Basing itself on sacred Scripture, which
presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always
declared that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. They are contrary
to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not
proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no
circumstances can they be approved."
(Catechism of the Catholic Church 2357).
Catholics who participate in homosexual acts, or who advocate for same-sex "marriage," are wise to heed the stipulations of Canon 915:
Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.
Make note of these words Principal Kline — "obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin" — and be guided accordingly.
That goes for anyone who persists in promoting the homofascist agenda, too.
There is but one path for those with homosexual tendencies: chastity.
"Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that
teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship,
by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely
approach Christian perfection."
(CCC 2357. 2359).
Immaculata High School, and all Catholics, should have no problem making these
doctrinal points abundantly clear. Perhaps they could ask Mrs. Jannuzzi to
show them the way.
