When you open a business in New Mexico you have to leave your religion at home.
Justice Richard Bosson wrote:
At its heart, this case teaches that at some point in our lives all of us must compromise, if only a little, to accommodate the contrasting values of others. A multicultural, pluralistic society, one of our nation's strengths, demands no less. The Huguenins are free to … pray to the God of their choice … But there is a price, one that we all have to pay somewhere in our civic life.
Bosson goes on to say having to violate your religious beliefs when they conflict with social issues like gay marriage "is the price of citizenship."
Ah yes, gay "marriage." That Which Must Not Be Opposed. It's in the public square, on display, and we must cheer. Religion? Hide it behind closed doors!
For Christians there is a price to be paid. For homosexuals? Not so much.
Here's the backstory. Elane and Jonathan Hugenin are devout Christians, who politely informed 2 lesbians seeking affirmation of their "commitment ceremony" that they'd be happier hiring another photographer to chronicle their Very Special Day. New Mexico has neither gay "marriage" nor civil unions so this ceremony was purely for these two ladies own edification.
Because, why not?
Anyway, instead of taking their business where it'd be welcomed, the angry lesbians sued. Gee, can you say "setup?" Of course you can.
And an outfit unironically named The New Mexico Human Rights Commission sided with the homosexual imposers of tolerance. We have to tolerate them, but they never have to tolerate us! Christians don't have "human rights."
Yesterday the New Mexico Supreme Court threw the Christians to the lions, affirming that they have a "duty" to violate their religious beliefs as "the price of citizenship."
Yeah, citizenship in Soviet Russia. But not the America our Founding Fathers created. In a nation founded on religious freedom we are no longer free to practice our religion, to be unhindered in our exercise of morality.
So I have to ask. Would forcing a kosher butcher to sell bacon also be "the price of citizenship?" Or, is his religion better than mine?
Only, I suspect, if homosexuals decide bacon is integral to their public displays of deviancy. Otherwise our Moral Superiors won't see the need to dictate our behavior. Yet.
Do you see what this is really about? If not, let me tell you that this is really about, "We, who are Your Moral Superiors, have authority to dictate your behavior, your words and, indeed, your thoughts."
The language of "rights" is not about freedom, but rather power. I tried to warn people about this in November 2008, but nobody listened, because Important Smart People (e.g., Nicolle Wallace) were telling Republicans to forget about that "social issues" stuff.Things that almost no one predicted in 2003, when Justice Kennedy created the "emerging awareness" doctrine out of thin air to justify overturning the 1986 Bowers v. Hardwick decision, are now happening routinely.
Ayup. Next on their hit parade — forcing churches to sanction same-sex unions. The homosexuals won't be happy until religion is destroyed, because it stands between their desires and what's left of their consciences. Religion reminds the sinner of his failings, which hurts his precious feelings. And if progressive politics has taught us nothing else since the 1960s, feelings are the sine qua non of an allegedly oppressed minority's Absolute Moral Authority.
Remember when morality came from God? Yeah, me neither.
