I know that perhaps I am not being entirely rational about this. I'm the father of a 10 year old daughter. Autumn Pasquale was 12, and now she's dead because two animals decided they wanted her bike.
Two teenage brothers, ages 17 and 15, have been charged with murdering Clayton girl Autumn Pasquale, whose body was found in a recycling container outside of a house on East Clayton Avenue.
The boys, who have been identified by multiple sources as Dante and Justin Robinson, have been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, disposing of a body, tampering with evidence and theft. The younger boy was also charged with luring.
Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton said the teens lured the 12-year-old girl to their East Clayton Avenue home where she was killed. An autopsy conducted Tuesday morning revealed Autumn died from "blunt force trauma, consistent with strangulation," Dalton said. He added that there was no evidence of sexual assault.
Her death has been ruled a homicide.
Twelve years old. Killed for a bike. The mutts have lawyered up. They've got rights. And due process. Justice says they're juveniles, and our enlightened and isolated Supreme Court hath decreed they can't be tried as adults. And New Jersey Progressives have abolished the death penalty.
So even if they're convicted — a bigger "if" than you'd think given all the slack murder defendants get from the state, not to mention the tricks their lawyers undoubtedly have up their sleeves — these two wastes of oxygen will live out their lives coddled by our prison system. Three square meals a day. TV, internet, phone, pornography, family visits, and jobs.
All while Autumn lies six feet under. They didn't show her any mercy. Her family will never see her or hold her or talk to her again. But we have to show mercy to her killers? We have to "understand" their poor upbringing, their "broken home", their disadvantages?. Because that's justice?
Bullshit.
I'll tell you what's justice. Put these two assholes in a room with Autumn's father for 15 minutes. Then string 'em up. Publicly. So the next malcontent with a grudge against girls riding nice bikes might think twice before luring his target to her death.
They don't deserve to live. And a system which gives them the benefit of the doubt, which tolerates their excuses (We was high, man...) shouldn't be confused with one which dispenses justice.
Justice for Autumn? Dante and Justin Robinson must die as painfully as she did. No remorse. Rid the planet of their wretched existences. Cleanse our state from the stench of their evil. Burn their corpses and dump the ashes in a sewer. Leave no trace of them. Far better for them that had never been born! Now condemn their souls to the fires of Hell for all eternity.
No, you'll say, none of that will bring Autumn back. But, I assure you of this. It'll let fathers like me sleep better at night, knowing two predators aren't busy plotting an attack on their next victim. We hug our daughters tightly tonight. We grieve with Autumn's family. And I for one stand resolutely for real justice. The kind we had before all the do-gooders and equivocators suckered us into revoking pennance from our penal system. An eye for an eye. And a tooth for a tooth. Two worthless, unrepentent lives for one which shined with light and promise.
Requiescat in pace.
