Happy Mothers Day! Unless you're a feminist I suppose. Feminists are generally anti-motherhood, or at least anti-stay-at-home-motherhood. Children, if feminists decide to "burden" themselves with them at all, are merely one checkbox on their agenda of life, competing for importance with careers, shopping, and girls night out. Oh, you'd better make sure the daycare is conveniently located too.
Don't believe me? Here are 5 things feminism hath wraught which serve to take the motherhood out of Mothers Day.
1. Roe v. Wade. Well, duh. If anything is anti-motherhood, this is it. Scrape that clump of cells into the trash and get me back to my Cosmo, stat! Those Sex and the City reruns won't watch themselves.
2. Nothing quite says "Happy Mothers Day" like a donation to Planned Parenthood. Or as one fellow said, "It's a little like watching The Pontius Pilate Foundation asking for donations of hammers and nails on Good Friday." But I suppose if you're a 14 year old girl who's pregnant by a guy over 30 Planned Parenthood is the place for you.
3. The pill. It paved the way for marital infidelity and a general lowering of moral standards. The pill separated sex from marriage and in doing so allowed generations of young (and successively younger) women to engage in indiscriminate and inappropriate behavior. When Racquel Welch agrees with Robert Stacy McCain on this issue you know you're on to something.
4. Sissified men. Strong male figures are anathema to feminists. A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle, right? Well except for the no-holds-barred sex of course. After that it's time for Mr. Macho to hit the highway or check his balls at the door. Mommy wears the pants, or else!
5. Single motherhood. Think about it, if your mother is your only parent
you don't really need a special day dedicated just to her, do you? A child
who grows up in a home without a father won't feel the need to settle down
and marry. Single parents beget single parents.
Dan Quayle was right.
