Blogger Robert Stacy McCain (aka The Other McCain) has declared this to be National Offend a Feminist Week.
Bloggers: I hereby declare this National Offend A Feminist Week. Your expressions of reactionary, oppressive, patriarchal, misogynistic traditionalism are solicited. Search your mind, search the Internet, and come up with a post guaranteed to make Jessica Valenti and Amanda Marcotte even angrier than usual.
I have some experience in this area, that is I can easily exasperate most of my liberal female friends. (Hi Stacey!) In fact I probably did so just last week when I opined that women who want to be Catholic priests are just being silly. In fact, Catholicism in general seems to offend feminists, so score one for me!
Yes, I am a traditionalist Catholic. I believe that the conduct of women during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass should be one of silence. I have resigned myself to hearing female lectors because every parish in my diocese uses them but I would much rather have one of the deacons read the scriptures. And, I will never accept Holy Communion from a lay woman Eucharistic Minister. (In truth I disdain the entire concept of lay Eucharistic Ministers, Holy Communion should only be touched by ordained hands.) And don't get me started on "alter girls". My daughter will never participate in that charade. The noble tradition of alter boys provides a sacred path to the priesthood. Permitting girls to act as alter servers only confuses them into falsely believing they can administer the sacraments.
His Holiness Pope John Paul II reaffirmed the complementary nature of men and women and praised their "diversity of roles" in The Church and in the family. He said "the differences between the sexes are part of God's plan for creation -- not social constructs -- and that church and society benefit when the gifts of both are recognized."
Feminism is all about erasing those essential differences. They put themselves
before God and in doing so miss out on the inherent joys of embracing their
femininity.
