In the now legendary anecdote, Barack Obama accused candidate Mitt Romney of paying a lower tax rate than Warren Buffett's secretary, as if this was proof Romney was cheating on his taxes. The MSNBC brain(less) trust had a field day with that, of course.
So wouldn't it be nice if Obama himself paid a higher tax rate than Warren Buffett's secretary? Um, not so much.
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama paid $112,214 in federal income taxes in 2012 on adjusted gross income of $608,611, an effective rate of 18.4%, the White House said Friday.
According to my accountant my effective tax rate is 24.2%, mostly because of the Alternative Minimum Tax.
Alas, Obama says I'm still not paying "my fair share," and his proposed budget includes the "Buffett Rule" which calls for even higher tax rates.
But mendacious WaPo libtalker Kirsten Powers says those rates shouldn't apply to Obama. He's special.
Hypocrites.
