Big Brother wants to watch every mile you drive. The Obama Administration is floating a plan to install tracking devices in every car, truck, bus, and motor vehicle in America. Why? To tax us by the mile of course!
The plan is a part of the administration's "Transportation Opportunities Act," an undated draft of which was obtained this week by Transportation Weekly.
This follows a March Congressional Budget Office report that supported the idea of taxing drivers based on miles driven.
Among other things, CBO suggested that a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations.
Also driving this bus to Orwell-ville is the fact that electric cars don't use gas and therefore their drivers don't pay gas taxes. Now that alternative fuel vehicles are going mainstream the government needs to find another way to reach into our wallets.
So they're gonna put a bureucrat in our tank. With a (metaphorical) clipboard, to track our every move.
Welcome my son,
Welcome to the machine.
Where have you been?
It's alright, we know where you've been!
Can automatic speeding tickets be far behind? A little GPS, a database of speed limits, a stopwatch, and presto! they know you were doing 48 in a 35. Here's your ticket! And a bill for road tax. Please pay the cashier.
While they're collecting data they might as well collect stats on seat belt use, right? Your car knows if you didn't buckle up, hey the feds need to know too! Yes folks there is no aspect of our lives which the federal bureaucracy does not wish to invade. And control.
Welcome my son,
Welcome to the machine.
What did you dream?
It's alright we told you what to dream.
It's for our own good, and of course, the good of our fellow citizens.
Write that down, otherwise you might forget.
