Try not to laugh. But Dear Leader went to Cuba and praised the Castro brothers' record on human rights.
Speaking to reporters in Havana Monday, President Barack Obama said that, "hopefully," the United States can learn a thing or two from Cuba's record on improving basic, human rights.
"President Castro, I think, has pointed out that it, in his view making sure that everybody is getting a decent education or health care, has basic security in old age, that those things are human rights as well."The president continued, "Hopefully, we can learn from each other."
I'm sure he's especially interested in learning how to lock up his political enemies. Because Cuba is really good at that.
Counter-protesters and police broke up an anti-government demonstration in Havana hours before U.S. President Barack Obama arrived for his historic visit.
About 300 government backers surrounded about 50 members and backers of the Ladies in White group, shouting insults and revolutionary slogans. There was some shoving back and forth.
The women were taken into custody by female police officers and loaded onto buses in an operation that lasted about 10 minutes.
Thomas Friedman and George Soros would be so proud.
This is, of course, how Obama and the Democrats believe government should operate. When a Republican is president, dissent is the highest form of patriotism. But under Obama, dissent is punishable, perhaps not by death, but certainly by lesser means, up to and including loss of jobs, friends, family, and freedom. It's the modus operandi of ever left-wing cause and group around (just look at what the homofascists do to anyone who gets in their way), and now we see that Barack Obama very much wants to make it the official policy of the United States government.
"Wherever there is a jackboot stomping on a human face there will be a
well-heeled Western liberal to explain that the face does, after all, enjoy
free health care and 100 percent literacy."
— John Derbyshire
The Founding Fathers would be appalled. Because making America more like
Cuba is not how they envisioned their legacy.
