Former VP Dick Cheney was on Sean Hannity last night. I watched, as did Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit who noted this particular snippet:
During the interview Cheney said that, "Barack Obama does not share that belief of American exceptionalism that most of us believe in."
Sean Hannity: You said about Barack Obama that he is projecting weakness to America's enemies. Expand on that.
Dick Cheney: Well, I think most of us believe and most presidents believe and talk about the truly exceptional nature of America. Our history, where we come from, our belief in our Constitutional values and principles. Our advocacy for freedom and democracy and the fact that we've provided it for millions of people all over the globe and so unselfishly. There's never been a nation like the United States of America in world history. And, yet when you have a president that goes around and bows to his host and proceeds to apologize profusely for the United States, I find that deeply disturbing. That says to me there's a guy who doesn't fully understand or share that view of American exceptionalism that I think most of us believe in.
Obama's view of American exceptionalism is, shall we say, somewhat more "nuanced", and oddly appealing to his internationalist aspirations:
"I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism."
What country is this guy president of? The guy who runs Coca-Cola doesn't go around saying there's really no difference between Coke and Pepsi, does he?
America — it's just as good as Botswana!
Somehow that doesn't strike me as a winning slogan. But it does explain why Barry is not keen on maintaining our special relationship with Great Britain. He has never mentioned it in a single speech. His gaffe-tacular gift of 25 unplayable DVDs to Prime Minister Gordon Brown still stings across the pond. And that's not all:
This, after all, is a man who, within days of being sworn in as President, ordered that a bust of Winston Churchill - a gift from the British people to the U.S. in the dark days that followed 9/11 - be removed from the Oval Office.
It now languishes, apparently totally unappreciated by its recipient, in the British Embassy in Washington.
Unlike so many of his predecessors, Obama is certainly a man with no close family ties to this country. He never attended a university here and has no great political affinity with Britain either.
His Kenyan grandfather, however, was reportedly mistreated under British colonial rule during that country's Mau Mau rebellion - an event to which he devotes 35 pages of his memoir, Dreams From My Father.
The country is in the very best of hands.
