Remember when Barack Obama promised Chris Christie he'd cut red tape?
Yeah, not so much.
Call it a $6 billion problem of "the check is in the mail."
Some 250 days after Hurricane Sandy pummeled New Jersey, only a portion of the billions in federal aid earmarked for the state has been delivered, according to a Star-Ledger analysis of data from federal and state agencies.
The newspaper's analysis found only an estimated $816 million of the $6.1 billion — or roughly 13 cents of every dollar — had made its way inside the Garden State's borders as of last week. What's worse, relief officials said, is the fact more delays are likely.
Urgency. A word that's not in the government's vocabulary. People are still suffering and the red tape is more voluminous than ever.
But later this year when the government is in charge of your health insurance I'm sure everything will be handled efficiently, expeditiously, and easily. No red tape. No delays. No hassles.
Obama promised.
And if your doctor has to take 13 cents on the dollar, he'll understand, right?
