When Chris Christie is on his game he is On His Game.
And when a back-bencher state Assemblyman crosses a line, he gets swatted like a bug.
Responding to Christie's call for a statewide referendum on gay "marriage" Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer) said:
"Govs. Lester Maddox and George Wallace would have found allies in Chris Christie over efforts by the Justice Department to end segregation in the South."
The race card. What a surprise. With the Democrats it's always the race card.
But Christie was having none of it. Watch the video.
And the money quote:
You have numbnuts like Reed Gusciora who put out a statement comparing me to George Wallace and Lester Maddox. Now you know, c'mon guys, at some point you've got be able to call BS on those kind of press releases.
The media is calling BS alright, on Christie, because he dared to call an openly gay Assemblyman "numbnuts." The Star-Ledger is aghast. Apparently it's a slur.
As if. It's a Jersey thing. Everybody says it. (Although after laughing perhaps a little too raucously I did have to come up with an explanation for the term "numbnuts" suitable for a ten year old. You just know she's gonna use the word in school tomorrow. Cue the phone call from the Principal in 3... 2... 1...)
Nothing will stop the perpetually aggrieved from being, well, aggrieved though. After all, it's what they do.
Here's Christie again:
There are any number of you in this room who may have a quarrel with my politics. George Wallace and Lester Maddox? You know, I don't think they were advocating for urban education. I think we've got a pretty good distinction there. And I think that those who say things like that like Assemblyman Gusciora should be ashamed of themselves. That they're that desperate to try to change the topic on this issue that they would actually raise those folks, reprehensible people in America's history.
Well yeah. Raaaaacism! is the last desperate cry of those who have no cogent argument. It's an empty epithet now. Devoid of force. A caricature of battles long since past, and won.
So here's the thing numbnuts. When you're thinking we don't like you because you're Black or Gay (or whatever…) consider this. Maybe we don't like you because you're an asshole.
Yeah, really.
