While watching the Jets get their butts kicked by the Dolphins I caught a press briefing from NJ Governor Chris Christie. He noted the state has drawn down lakes and reservoirs in anticipation of record flooding from Hurricane Sandy, aka Frankenstorm. And then he told local officials to "get done what you need to get done."
Commissioner Martin works directly with local officials to make sure they can do everything in their power to prepare. That means sweeping streets, clearing storm drains and basins, and desnagging rivers.
It's been one of our priorities to give these communities so ofter hard-hit by the flooding the necessary flexibility to act. So, act first, and worry about the DEP later. OK? This is one of those times you use one of my favorite sayings, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. So, get done what you need to get done. (applause)
Video here.
That's the spirit we need! Get done what you need to get done. Save lives and property. Mitigate storm damage. Worry about regulations and bureaucracy tomorrow.
Am I prepared? Is the Pope Catholic?
Beer? Check!
Milk, eggs, and bread? Check, check, and check.
I've laid in firewood, stockpiled ice, loaded up on batteries, and charged Sophie's phone. Sophie's phone? Yup. It's a basic phone so the battery lasts a week (or more). Not like my BlackBerry or Tammy's Droid which'll both conk out in under a day. And if (ahem, "when") the power goes out, my FiOS box only lasts 8 hours. Then goodbye landline.
Remember when the phone company sent you -48VDC come hell or high water? Me neither.
From a friend on Facebook:
Hurricane preparedness tip from the news...."have cash on hand in small bills". Are we all going to the strip club or something?
Well, Gov. Christie did say to do what ya gotta do!
Stay safe everybody.
