Nothing embodies "Go Union!" quite like the Post Office. They're $9.2 billion in the hole and on the verge of insolvency. Why? Iron-clad union contracts which barely made sense in Pony Express days are strangling them as e-mail makes their business model obsolete.
Decades of contractual promises made to unionized workers, including no-layoff clauses, are increasing the post office's costs. Labor represents 80 percent of the agency's expenses, compared with 53 percent at United Parcel Service and 32 percent at FedEx, its two biggest private competitors. Postal workers also receive more generous health benefits than most other federal employees.
Go Union!
I already wrote about this one, but lest you think the Star-Ledger's ridiculous "anti-union equals pro-slavery" meme was some kind of one-off case of the stoopids, here's Jesse Jackson to reinforce the notion:
At a Congressional Black Caucus Town Hall a few days ago in Los Angeles, Jesse Jackson told the audience that the Fort Sumter Tea Party supports the Tenth Amendment, or as he calls it, the slave amendment. Because of this, their fight against the Tea Party is a Civil War struggle. He asks "are you with the Union or the states' rightists?"
Um, I'm with the Constitution, which as far as I know, says nothing about trade unions. But to guys like Jackson everything is racial. The Blog Prof sets the record straight:
The 10th amendment in fact has and had nothing to do with slavery despite activist judges and slave owners, who by the way also happened to be Democrats, insisting that it did. Funny that Democrats today still insist that it does.
Yeah, funny. In that gee-I-really-feel-sorry-for-them kind of way.
But then, what do I know? According to Joe Biden, I'm just a "Republican barbarian." Yeah, that's me alright. Unlike say, the leaders of the AFL-CIO who are models of civility.
I saw the headline at Drudge today and frankly, the first thing I thought to myself was, "Jimmy Hoffa?" "I thought he has been 'missing' for a couple of decades -- or three?"
Wrong Jimmy Hoffa, this is junior we are talking about here; the same one inseparably attached to Obama's hip. I guess I forgot Jimmy Hoffa junior runs the Teamsters now.
Junior, stumping for Obama this Labor Day, quoted at Real Clear Politics:
"We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They've got a war, they got a war with us and there's only going to be one winner. It's going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We're going to win that war," Jimmy Hoffa Jr. said to a heavily union crowd.
"President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let's take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong," Hoffa added.
Obama addressed the crowd shortly after Hoffa.
There's nothing like a Presidential Stamp of Approval to really drive home Hoffa's point, eh?
Oh wait, it turns out Hoffa may have been "misquoted." He was merely talking about taking us sons of bitches out via the ballot box.
[Hoffa] Everybody here's got to vote. If we go back and keep the eye on the prize, let's take these son of a bitches out and give America back to America where we belong! Thank you very much!
Riiiiiight… Voting. Because unions love voting so much. Like when workers vote on whether or not to form a union. What's that? Oh, yeah. Obama's NLRB recently eliminated the secret ballot in favor of Card Check. That's where Jimmy Hoffa asks if you want to join the union, and if you say "no" he makes you an offer you can't refuse.
Voting. Feh. Unions only liked voting back when they had ACORN to rig the elections for them.
Pat Austin remembers when Obama was looking for some "straight shooters." Now thanks to Junior we know what he really meant. Once you've decided it's OK to push your pre-teen daughter out in front of a moving truck just so it won't cross your picket line there's not much else that's off the table. Union goons have a long and inglorious history of using violence, or threats of violence, to enforce their hegemony.
Really Mr. Vice President, who are the barbarians here?
Conventional (as in MSM) wisdom paints Sarah Palin as a nutjob extremist. But I gotta say, she sounds pretty reasonable to me. Certainly more reasonable than the unionistas who shared a stage with President Zero. You'd think Barry would have the guts to trot out his "new tone" and denounce the thuggery. Not a chance.
Well then fellas,
Hugh has a message for you.
