To hear the Star-Ledger tell it, those Evil Republicans are at it again, holding up FEMA disaster relief funds while New Jersey sinks beneath the flood waters left by Hurricane Irene. A bill to replenish FEMA's depleted coffers failed to advance in the Senate last night, and of course the Democrats and their media shills are decrying "partisan politics."
The measure received 53 votes, seven shy of the 60 needed to advance the bill, part of which would fund the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Democrats blasted the vote as another example of partisan politics run amok.
"No wonder Americans are fed up with Congress when the Republicans make disaster victims pawns in a political game," said Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.). "The Republicans seem to be willing to go to any length to make the government appear to be dysfunctional and ineffective."
Except the crybabies fail to note that the House has already approved a FEMA funding bill, and it's that bill which Senate Democrats won't advance.
Why? Because it funds FEMA by eliminating a bunch of boondoggle electric car and green energy subsidy programs, that's why. Think Solyndra, only on a nationwide scale. But the radical greenies won't stand for even one of their pet projects being exposed as yet another ineffective waste of taxpayer dollars. So preening Gaia-worshipping ecowarriors and their Chevy Volt smugmobiles trump disaster assistance for average middle class New Jerseyans.
Who are the real "pawns" here?
Tell Frank Lautenberg to make the granola-eaters spend their own damn money on
solar-powered tricycles and geothermal golf carts. Then he'll get his 60 votes
and New Jersey will finally see some return on all the tax dollars we shovel
into that gaping federal maw down in Washington, DC.
