On the occasion of of my fourth blogaversary I thought I'd defer to a guest blogger, someone whom I encountered on my recent trip to Washington, DC, and whose off-the-beaten-path memorial far removed from the National Mall is not generally the highlight of anyone's conventional tour.
Yet his eloquence moved me, and as best as I can recall he is said to have once murmured something like this:
Four Years and Seven Million Score Words Ago a middle-aged man brought forth upon the Intertubes a new blog, conceived to advance Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that On The Internet No One Can Tell If You're A Dog.
Now we are engaged in an epic battle, testing whether that blog, or any blog so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met here on the great battlefield of Ideas, having come to rededicate ourselves to the task of ensuring that our Great Nation might once again live free. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should stand for Liberty against the forces of darkness and Obamunism.
But in a larger sense, it is not up to a single blogger to turn the tide of the Progressive onslaught. The many brave men and women who have come before him, along with those who will soon join in his quest, have blazed the path of Righteousness farther along than his one voice could hope to advance. The blogosphere may little note, nor long remember, the words he has committed to the ether, but the Google Cache never forgets, and it archives every post on the off chance Instapundit has nothing better to link to on a slow news day.
It is nigh for him, the blogger, to be redoubled in his pursuit of the unfinished work which has, thus far, so nobly been received by his readership. It is for you, the peruser of his prose, to remain steadfast in your dedication to the great task remaining before us — that we here together highly resolve that his blog shall not have been published in vain; and that he may continue to blog to advance the cause of Freedom; and that we shall overcome the notion that the people exist to serve their government; ensuring instead that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not ever again be given over to the Liberals, who for certain would have it perish from the earth.
The inscription at the base of his statue said simply, Wolverines!, and I knew straightaway that I was on hallowed ground. Either that, or those last lunch truck burritos really packed a wallop.
So, Happy Blogaversary To Me!
Yes, I plan to keep on doing this, for Four More Years, and then some. There are still liberals to annoy, and more sacred cows to skewer. There are miles to go before we sleep. And leaving nothing to chance, together we will once again restore the glory of our Founding Fathers' vision of America as that shining city on the hill.
Thank you, and may God bless America.
UPDATE 18 May 2011 10:20:
I'd like to thank all of you for the kind words, kudos, and blogaversary linkage.
It's really appreciated. And I hope I can keep living up to the hype…
