I've never before watched a movie on DirecTV where there's an "intermission" so they can shill for their upcoming attractions. Oh sure, before and after the movie every channel plays previews. But in the middle?
I guess there's a first for everything.
Sitting down to dinner tonight I flipped to the MGM Channel, where "Navy SEALS" was playing. OK, sounds like fun, kick some ass and take names, right? Us guys love that shit. And tonight is war movie night — "The Bridge at Remagen" is up next. One of my favorites. Which I'm missing so I can post this.
So imagine my surprise when "Intermission" flashes on the screen. What does intermission want me to know? June is LGBT Pride Month! And the MGM Channel is celebrating! With "6 films that ignored taboos and helped audiences move beyond stereotypes."
Yippee Kai Ay.
Curiously, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" isn't in the mix. Oh sure, Philby, Blunt, Burgess, Maclean, and Cairncross are celebrated in Moscow. But this is LGBT Pride Month right here in the good old U S of A. Where Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta himself is Master of Ceremonies! Wouldn't you want to laud the 5 homosexual heroes who sold out MI6 and gave the Russkies the hydrogen bomb?
Because that's one way the MGM Channel could really move beyond stereotypes. You know, if they wanted to.
Just please, for the love of God, don't interrupt another movie to tell me
about it. Spasibo.
