Mitch McConnell puts a Sotomayor filibuster on the table

Do you think Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) reads my blog? Last month I suggested that the GOP filibuster the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court. Yesterday on CBS's "Face that Nation" Sen. McConnell put the filibuster option on the table. (h/t Memeorandum)

"I have consistently opposed filibustering judges — did it during the Clinton years — but I lost that fight," McConnell said. "The Senate will filibuster judges. That precedent was established — ironically enough — on a Hispanic-American nominee in Miguel Estrada."

Asked to clarify, McConnell confirmed he is reserving the right to filibuster Sotomayor.

"The Democrats have firmly established that as a precedent, but that doesn't mean you are going to use it," he said.

Yup, the Democrats sure did love them some filibustering during the Bush years. None other than former Illinois Senator Barack Hussein Obama was one of its biggest fans.

What's he gonna do now that the shoe is on the other foot? Complain that the GOP said one thing and is now doing another? Gee, it's not like he hasn't done that, more than once too.

This is hardball politics, and we need to play for keeps.
