Does anyone care which primary is next after Florida? I'm sure there is one. But I have GOP candidate fatigue and can't bear to look it up.
Every time I open Facebook now I'm bombarded by zealots. Ron Paul!, or you're not a Real Conservative! No, Rick Santorum!, because Ron Paul is a Raaaaacist! Wait, Newt!, because Sarah Palin loves him and Mitt hates puppies! No, Mitt is our man because…, well just because, that's why. And Newt really invented Obamacare anyway.
I think I liked FB better when everyone was just nagging me to play Farmville.
Smitty calls for a truce.
I can't figure out what the devil is going wrong with the conservative blogosphere. The candidates all suck: get over it. There are a lot of unreasonable ways that people could be spreading hasty propaganda in an effort to skew results.
Don't be hasty! Even if the intent is not evil, crapflooding has evil results. We expect that from the Left. Have your preferred candidates, but understand that, post-convention, we still have to coalesce as a team.
Then again, his blogging partner seems to be blaming Perry supporters for Santorum's anemic poll numbers.
Just ask yourselves, Perrybots, what might have been possible if some other candidate — any other candidate, perhaps one who could remember how to count to three — had an extra $20 million to spend here in Florida. But no, you spent months telling the rest of us that Rick Perry was The Only Conservative Who Could Beat Romney, an argument you didn't hesitate to repeat as late as December, long after it was apparent that he wasn't ready for prime time. And you still refuse to admit that you were misled, and helped mislead others, into jumping aboard that hopeless Bandwagon to Loserville.
Hey, Stacy McCain is a kick-ass gonzo journalist and all. He Knows Things. I'm just a random Polack from New Jersey. But it occurs to me that Rick Perry, a guy who's actually won elections and governed from conservative principles, might have gotten more traction if a certain gonzo journalist hadn't taken a flyer on the likes of Herman Cain, and in the process misled a whole lotta other folks into buying a one-way ticket on the 9-9-9 Restraining Order Express. Cain wanted to be president alright, just not President of the United States. More like president of Hooters, if you get my drift. Certainly beats that web site idea, right?
Anyway, what's done is done, and we're left to pick up the pieces, and maybe remember that we're all here to do one thing, and one thing only. Defeat Obama. Oh, and retain control of the House. And maybe pick up a Senate majority too. A pretty tall order on a good day.
Alas, today is not a good day. Today is Florida primary day. And no matter who wins tonight the long knives are going to grow longer. The True Believers are dug in for the long haul now, and whatever bloody corpse emerges from Tampa as our nominee will most certaily find a rejuvenated Obama ready to regurgitate every negative ad and soundbite ever uttered by those he left behind.
Is that what we really want?
UPDATE 01 Feb 2012 10:55:
Other "Perrybots" chime in…
Gator Doug links, and notes the sadly mistaken emphasis on style over substance evidenced by Perry's downfall.
Pat in Shreveport calls Stacy's comments "dead wrong." She quotes me!
And Lance Burri explains the inherent logical fallacy in Stacy's argument; to whit, that $20 million was for Rick Perry, not random cash which other candidates could have vacuumed up at will.
