If you believe the opinion polls, Cory Booker has apparently jumped out to a double-digit lead over Steve Lonegan.
Democrat Cory Booker is still carrying a double-digit lead over Republican Steve Lonegan in the U.S. Senate race, according to the first major poll released since the two won their parties' nominations last week.
The Monmouth University/Asbury Park Press poll, released this morning, shows Booker — the Newark mayor — leading Lonegan 54 to 38 percent.
Patrick Murray, the director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said Booker is "in the driver's seat."
"We find that only about one in five voters are either undecided or say they'll change their mind right now." Murray told the Asbury Park Press. "You put all that together, and there's not a lot of room for movement in this electorate."
Sigh.
The media is already preparing for Booker's coronation. My guess is "one in five voters" have even heard of the upcoming special election and this poll is skewed by (a) New Jersey's typical knee-jerk propensity to vote Democrat and (b) a plethora of low-information voters.
So Steve Lonegan's job is to get his message out. Loud and clear.
I'll try to help. A vote for Lonegan is a vote for Liberty.
A vote for Booker is a vote for Obama. And Harry Reid. And NSA spying, IRS abuses, regulatory overreach, excessive spending, massive debt dumped on our children, Obamacare, gun confiscation, teachers unions, illegal aliens, green energy boondoggles, an imperial presidency, and Chicago-style politics.
But hey, maybe New Jersey likes soaring unemployment, a tattered economy, a looming health care fiasco, and Smart Diplomacy™.
Or, maybe we could look beyond credentials and flashy stunts to see where our country is headed and how guys like Cory Booker are the problem. Progressive policies got us into this mess (and yes, that includes the idiocy that was "compassionate conservatism"). Steve Lonegan eschews sound bites and simplistic solutions. He'll provide leadership and intellectual honesty.
Lonegan's message may not be what you want to hear. But it's what you need to hear.
Read Steve Lonegan on the issues. Then try telling me that he isn't exactly the right guy at the right time. Not just for New Jersey, but for America.
Wednesday October 16th vote Steve Lonegan for U.S. Senate. You'll
be glad you did.
