The lefty blogosphere is aghast that Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle believes, as they put it, "God planned your rape, don't abort!" Here's what she reportedly said to radio host Bill Manders back in January:
Manders asks her whether there is "any reason at all for an abortion," and she answers: "Not in my book." For clarity, he says: "So, in other words, rape and incest would not be something?" And Angle replies with this reasoning: "You know, I'm a Christian, and I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives and that he can intercede in all kinds of situations and we need to have a little faith in many things."
Which Salon.com somehow twists into "You see, God planned your rape and pregnancy. Isn't that reassuring?"
Apparently there are no Catholics in their employ.
See, the thing is, Ms. Angle's position on the matter is standard Catholic doctrine. Ask any priest. He'll tell you straightaway, no abortion, no exceptions. God didn't plan the rape; but He does have a plan for every child, even children conceived under tragic circumstances.
The Church cannot make an exception for abortion when unborn children are conceived in rape or incest. To do so would send the message that the child's value depends upon the circumstances of his conception.
An unborn child is an innocent human, regardless of the circumstances of his conception. Though tragic, the crimes of rape or incest are only exacerbated, and the woman's torments are only intensified, by the additional sin of abortion. Since... the unborn is human, regardless of the "caliber" of his pre-born life, no alleged deficiency in his "quality" of life can justify the taking of that life.
Sharron Angle is right. Don't let any left-wing apologist for infanticide
tell you otherwise.
