I had high hopes for Rick Perry's candidacy. But after last night's debate performance I think he might not have what it takes. He flubbed what should have been the gimme line of the night — calling out Mitt Romney's waffling and flip flopping — and he blew it big time.
One guy on Twitter asked, "did Rick Perry just have a stroke?" Yeah, it was that bad. The rest of the time he appeared to be wooden, downright stiff actually, and the fake sincerity didn't fool anyone.
And to both of you turkeys, enough already with the books! I'm not interested in what Perry's ghostwriter said vs what Romney's ghostwriter changed vs what both of their flunkies thought they meant.
Romney made sure to beat the Gardasil and immigration dead horses again. My wife did have one interesting observation though. All 9 candidates are supposedly for having the states set their own policies on things like education. So she asked, why is it a big deal if Rick Perry's education policy includes in-state tuition for whoever he chooses to include? Or mandates vaccinations? Isn't that rightfully something that should be decided on a state-by-state basis?
And of course we all agree that what is right for Texas or Massachusetts is not necessarily applicable in New Jersey or Minnesota, don't we? Federalism gives Perry or Romney the ability to set policy for their state, and their state alone. They've both said those policies aren't extensible nationwide. That ought to be the end of it.
Anything else is just a cheap shot.
Speaking of cheap shots, how about that Dan Savage plant aiming his gay-rights dagger right at Rick Santorum? The gays really have their hate on for him, don't they? I thought Santorum handled it as best as could be expected. Here's the thing. If you're in the military your sole focus should be on doing your job. Thinking about your dick isn't in the job description. It doesn't matter. We don't ask and you shouldn't tell because we don't care. If you're more worried about your sex life than the lives of your fellow soldiers then you're probably not cut out to be in the military. And yeah, that goes for horndog heterosexual dudes too.
Going back to my wife's reactions again. She really warmed up to Herman Cain and his 9-9-9 plan. And I'll admit he has some good ideas. I like that he'll stand by Israel and he's not afraid of the Islamists. He speaks his mind and he's good with the quip. But for that matter so's Newt and I still think he's yesterday's news.
Gary Johnson made his first appearance and stole the show. Maybe his neighbor's dog should run for president! Because Gary looked like he did one too many bong hits before taking the stage.
Jon Huntsman let us know he has more kids than Michele Bachmann. The two of them should open up a daycare together.
Ron Paul was Ron Paul. He's in third place! In his dreams.
Truthfully, nobody in this crowd wowed me last night. Sure, any of them would be
better than President Zero, but that's setting the bar pretty low. It looks like
we're going to get Romney by default and I just can't get excited about that.
