The real loser last night? Jim Lehrer. Seriously, could he have looked any more hapless and impotent, vainly trying to cut Romney off while feeding response lines to Obama? Lines I might add that Obama failed to pick up, probably because he kept looking down at his shoes. When he snarled "I had five seconds before you interrupted me!" that pretty much sealed our peevish president's fate.
Your time is up Barry. Go home.
Stacy McCain's doing his Happy Dance. And why not? Obama got Mitt-slapped. It left a mark.
Nobody — and I mean, nobody — expected such a one-sided ass-whupping.
That's what happens when you're used to softballs on The View instead of substantive questions about your policies and record. Romney hit Obama hard, and often. "Trickle-down government" is destined to be a classic line. A bureaucrat in every house, car, boat, school, factory, office, restaurant, supermarket, and playground! Obama would regulate freedom out of existence if he could, and he just might if he gets a second term. Romney made that point abundantly clear.
Romney's best line of the night, on taxes: "You said you get a deduction for taking a plant overseas? Look, I've been in business 25 years, I have no idea what you're talking about. I think you need to get a new accountant."
Maybe Obama relied on TurboTax like Tim Geithner did. It's just "a-rith-me-tic", right? Obama said a-rith-me-tic with such disdain I wonder if he even knows how to tally up his own scorecard on the golf course. Obama-math! That's when you add $6 trillion dollars to the deficit after promising to cut it in half and then accuse Romney of only wanting to cut it by $4 trillion.
I think the voters are smart enough to see through that. Well, the non-Obamabot voters anyway.
Obama tried to rally on health care, embracing the term "Obamacare". But he dug himself into a hole there too.
Obama: They're not "Death Panels," they're just panels made up of expert doctors who'll decide if your treatment should be paid for.
Because the Cleveland Clinic is a model for what medicine should be. And gosh-darnit he's gonna make every doctor's office in America a clone of the Cleveland Clinic! One size fits all, just like Moochelle's school lunch debacle. When Romney pointed out the obvious fact that the Cleveland Clinic succeeds because it's a private institution free to do things however it sees fit you could just see the wind go out of Obama's sails.
Voters notice stuff like that too.
I also liked Romney's green energy boondoggle zinger — "You don't just pick winners and losers, you pick losers." Yup. And if you voted for Obama you picked the biggest loser of 'em all.
So of course we have to brace ourselves for the lapdog media's inevitable "Obama, the Comeback Kid!" narrative. Don't buy it. What's he going to come back to? Four more years of the same failed policies?
Romney 2012! Because the business of America is business.
