WyBlog, the best thing about New Jersey since the invention of the 24 hour diner.

The wheels are coming off the Hope and Change express. Barry's star power couldn't pull Creigh Deeds over the finish line. Republican Bob McDonnell will be the new governor of Virginia. And his Republican running mates swept the 2 down-ticket races for Lt Governor and Attorney General. Northern Virginia is Barry's back yard and I hope he was watching from his window as the voters gave him the finger.
As goes New Jersey so goes the nation? Jon Corzine has gone down in flames tonight, and he's carrying the mantle of the Obama imprimateur with him. Barry staked his reputation on Corzine, making five trips to our state in an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to prop up the guy he called his "partner". New Jersey's problems are the nation's problems. Jon Corzine echoed pretty much every Obama policy prescription, and now our state has decidedly rejected both the man and the message.
Obamunism has just suffered its first major defeat. For a state like New Jersey which went 57% for Obama just a year ago to now repudiate Obama's guy is earth-shattering news. The prospects for Pelosi and Co. in the 2010 midterm election just got a whole lot shakier.
Obama goes to Europe and comes back with no Olympics. Goes to NJ and his candidate loses. Same in Va. Maybe he should stay at home since he comes back empty handed each time.
Two decisive victories, with NY-23 still too close to call, means that rumors of the GOP's death have been greatly exaggerated.
UPDATE 04 Nov 2009 09:15:
Doug Hoffman fought the good fight.
He fell 4,000 votes short of a stunning upset victory. Doug Hoffman came out of nowhere and almost prevailed in a race with national implications.
Hell's bells, it's a Disney movie starring Rick Moranis!
The peculiar circumstances of the NY23 special election put Hoffman in the glare of the national spotlight and, given his admitted lack of political "rock star" credentials, he did a lot better than any of the experts might have expected. As he said in his concession speech:
"This one was worth the fight. And it's only one fight in the battle, and we have to keep fighting."
It was Hoffman's willingness to fight that made him an inspirational figure, and Erick Erickson says the fight must go on.
If the Republican bosses think they're going to pick another candidate in NY23 for 2010, they'd better think again. The grassroots conservatives -- the Tea Party people, the pro-lifers, the Club for Growth, Fred and Jeri Thompson, Sarah Palin -- who backed Doug Hoffman aren't going to forget his courageous example.
Watching Fox News last night I saw an interview with Florida Governor Charlie Crist, who is the NRSC choice (over conservative Marco Rubio) to replace Mel Martinez in the Senate next year. Gov. Crist laughed when asked about the conservative grassroots uprising in NY-23. I don't think RINO Charlie fully understands the implications of what just happened in upstate New York. By the time he figures it out, it'll be too late.
