When it comes to reining in the ballooning federal budget deficit House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has thrown in the towel.
U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said permanently extending former President George W. Bush's tax cuts for middle-class wage earners may no longer be affordable as the U.S. tries to curb its growing debt.
On the Senate floor, Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said, "It's now official. Top Democrats are signaling their intention to raise taxes on the middle class" that would "break" Obama's campaign pledge not to raise taxes for households earning less than $250,000.
Raise taxes. That's all the Democrats know. Raise taxes, and then raise them some more. Cut spending? Not on their watch!
The Obamabots' orgy of spending has gotten so out of control that Hoyer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi won't introduce a budget resolution this year. They can't. Defining a new budget requires that they quantify the deficit implications of running the money printing press at full speed for the past 16 months.
The last thing they want the public to know is just how badly screwed we are.
Porkulus. Health Care. Lifetime unemployment benefits. COBRA subsidies. Billions for ACORN. Handouts for Hamas. The impending Social Security train wreck. A trillion here, a trillion there, and pretty soon the country is on the verge of bankruptcy.
It's no coincidence that White House Budget Director Peter Orszag is making for the exits. He knows what's in store. Red ink as far as the eye can see. And there's nobody on Barry's team with the guts to confront that stark reality. The Democrats are whistling past the deficits and Obama is calling the tune.
What Hoyer and everyone else in Obama-land needs is a good ass-kicking from Chris Christie. The only way, The! Only! Way!, to get our deficit under control is to CUT SPENDING. Chris Christie knows this. He's doing it here in New Jersey.
House Republicans issued a mock budget cancellation notice:
"We regret to inform you that the congressional budget planned for fiscal year 2011 has been cancelled due to Washington Democrats' out-of-control spending spree."
It's a spending spree with no end in sight. It's a spending spree that our great-grandchildrens' great-grandchildren will still be paying for.
70 years ago FDR and the Keynesians almost ruined this country. Obama and
the neo-Keynesians are well on their way toward finishing the job. November
can't some soon enough. At the rate these guys are going it might just come
too late.
