Rob Andrews sees the writing on the wall. So he's bailing out while the coast is still clear. And before the House Ethics Committee throws him out.
U.S. Representative Robert Andrews, D-1st, of Haddon Heights, is expected to announce today that he will resign from Congress this month and go to work for a Philadelphia law firm, according to Philly.com.
The Democrat is in his 24th year in the House of Representatives. In the midst of ethics investigations into his personal use of campaign funds, Andrews is planing to take a public affairs position at he unnamed law firm.
A House subcommittee was formed in March 2013 to look at Andrews' use of $30,000 in campaign funds to pay for his family to go to Scotland, and for other expenses. The subcommittee would also investigate whether he made false statements to federal officials.
A Star-Ledger report also showed Andrews used $10,000 to pay for a graduation party for one of his daughters and contributed thousands of dollars to theaters that cast his daughter in plays.
Just another typical Democrat.
But since he didn't cause a traffic jam, nobody was actively clammoring for his resignation. It's just a nice surprise on an otherwise mundane Tuesday morning.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Rob.
UPDATE 04 Feb 2014 11:23:
And to almost no one's surprise, George Norcross has annointed his baby brother Donald to occupy Andrews' seat.
