For the paltry sum of $5,000 you too can help Charlie Rangel pay his legal bills.
The Charles B. Rangel Legal Expense Trust sent out an urgent fund raising appeal this week, asking for the maximum $5,000 donation before December 31st. Because then donors would be able to shovel another five grand at Charlie's troubles next year too.
Poor Charlie spent more than $2 million bucks defending himself against ethics charges in the House. Too bad, he lost, and received the Maximum Penalty courtesy of Nancy Pelosi's Most Ethical Congress Evah! — a censure resolution. Yeah, that'll teach him not to fracture the law or evade taxes for seventeen years…
Now he says he's broke. Uh, sure. I'd like to be "broke" like Charlie Rangel,
wouldn't you? But the House Ethics Committee bought his sob story and granted
him permission to set up a Slush Legal Defense Fund.
Which he promises will be used solely for legal expenses.
Maintenance fees on his villa in the Dominican Republic are legal
expenses, aren't they? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
