Ka-boom: Bob Menendez indicted on corruption charges
Corruption? In a politician from New Jersey's Hudson County? Where's my shocked face?
Bob Menendez's chickens have finally come home to roost. A federal grand jury indicted him today on corruption charges, including conspiracy to commit bribery and wire fraud.
Sen. Bob Menendez has been charged with using his office to improperly benefit a Florida eye doctor and political donor.
A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted the New Jersey Democrat on charges including conspiracy to commit bribery and wire fraud.
Prosecutors had been investigating whether Menendez improperly advocated for the business interests of Dr. Salomon Melgen, including by intervening on the doctor's behalf in a medical billing dispute.
And no, this isn't an April Fools post.
Interestingly, news leaked earlier this week that Bob's co-conspirator is going to be indicted as well.
Federal prosecutors are moving toward charging a Florida eye doctor over his dealings with New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, according to a person familiar with a Justice Department investigation into their relationship.
How nice. They can be cell mates. It's a bit of a step down from the private plane and fancy villa in the Dominican Republic that they're used to, but I suppose they'll muddle through OK.
