I was going to write something snarky about John Edwards now being free to openly shack up with his baby momma but then Donald Douglas whacked me upside the head with this post: Pray for the soul of Elizabeth Edwards. Metaphorically she died alone, having renounced her faith. He's right. It's really sad how far too many people turn away from God at the moment when they need Him most. From a commenter at Wonkette:
I stopped praying a long time ago. God does not seem to be too interested in my life or my problems. Evangelicals have perpetrated a huge fraud on the unsuspecting masses. The bastards on Wall Street giggle and guffaw while the masses are on their knees praying to be able to make ends meet, feed the kids or not get evicted from their apartment.
Of course, Elizabeth left God out of her statement. She's lost a son. She's lost her health. Her husband humiliated her and continues to do so. Of the big three, Love, Health and Family, that Elizabeth had she was screwed out of all of them in some way.
The world belongs to those who lie, cheat and steal. Just ask Julian Assange.
If there is a God, it is not compassionate. The best argument that God doesn't exist is that republitards believe in one wholeheartedly and with a passion that borders on hysteria.
What a poor sad pathetic comment that is. I can hear the ache in her soul.
Many years ago, during a particularly trying time in my own life, a friend handed me a small card. I still carry it in my wallet and read it almost every day.
Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The Word made flesh. Nothing is beyond the power of God. Nothing.
Now it happened that as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child
leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
(Luke 1:41)
So anyway, what's this got to do with taxes? Nothing really, I just didn't have time to post anything yesterday about The Deal, and like I said I started out wanting to skewer a few liberal sacred cows in a semi-coherent morning diatribe.
So here goes. Can you believe the mental contortions playing out in Prog-ville this morning? The New York Times is calling it A Back-Door Stimulus Plan.
C'mon, you gotta admit that's funny.
I thought only government spending stimulated the economy! Hasn't Herr Doktor Professor Krugman been banging that drum for going on 2 years now? What happened? And these aren't just any tax cuts, they threw in a payroll tax cut.
Now really, is there any longer a reason to believe that Social Security isn't just a Ponzi scheme? If it's so "broke" why slash its revenues? Revenues, schmevenues — the money we pay in FICA taxes goes into the general fund and the benefits paid to geezers comes out of the general fund. There are no "accounts", no lockbox, and no chance it'll be sustainable.
But anybody with a brain already figured that out a long time ago. Nice to see the Obamabots finally catching on.
How sleazy is Harry Reid? This sleazy:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is trying to use the tax cut package President Barack Obama brokered with Republicans to legalize online poker, POLITICO has learned — a move that could further complicate the deal Obama announced Monday. Already, the online poker proposal has exposed the Nevada Democrat to charges of flip-flopping on a controversial issue, as well as using his Senate leadership position to repay big casino interests that helped him win reelection in a hard-fought campaign against Republican Sharron Angle last month.
Harry Reid is so crooked he makes Charlie Rangel look like a Boy Scout.
Contrary to libtard hysteria Republicans didn't get everything they wanted in the tax-cuts-for-unemployment-extension swapperoo. The Death Tax is back, maybe not at 55% anymore, but 35% is still a pretty hefty chunk of change. (And gee, there is a tie-in to my intro, since she died in 2010 the Estate of Elizabeth Edwards won't owe a penny in death tax. If she'd held on for 25 more days her family would have had to put her money where her feminista friends' mouths are.)
There's something in this plan to make everyone unhappy. Somewhere
Machiavelli is smiling.
