Another day, another NJ slush fund

The corruption in New Jersey politics is so rampant that reports of yet another slush fund go virtually unnoticed. State Senator Wayne Bryant (D-Camden) is on trial for fraud in connection with a no-show job he held at a Camden county state college where his primary function seems to have been the steering of legislative grant money to the school. He was given a $30,000 per year post as a "thank you" for his efforts on their behalf.

State Treasurer David Rousseau testified in Bryant's trial yesterday. He noted that the grant money Bryant disbursed was only the tip of the iceberg; the legislature had established a $20 million annual fund which was controlled by 3 top Democratic leaders. State Senate President Richard Codey (D-Essex), State Senate Majority Leader Bernard F. Kenny, Jr. (D-Hudson), and Bryant each had access to this fund. Codey controlled the lion's share of the money ($12 million) while Bryant and Kenny had to make do with $4 million apiece.

And wherever they decided to send money, Rousseau sent the money.

The politicians in New Jersey really have no shame. They know they'll never be voted out of office. The residents of their districts will keep on re-electing Codey, Bryant, Kenny and every other one of the urban Democratic incumbents regardless of how many times they are accused of corruption, indicted for corruption, or even convicted of corruption. Thanks to untold numbers of slush funds the politicians keep their constituents content by passing out government largesse in exchange for party loyalty. The residents of our cities and urban centers are genetically incapable of pulling the lever for anyone who is not a Democrat. If Jesus Himself came to NJ and ran for office as a Republican He would almost certainly get trounced by any random guy with a D after his name.

And the Democrats know it too. Which is why they continue to rape the public and blatantly steal from the taxpayers. Even when they are caught red handed they can count on their friends to cushion their fall. Before Sharpe James, the disgraced former mayor of Newark, surrendered himself to serve his sentence for fraud he was the guest of honor at a lavish affair where all the Democratic party luminaries turned out in full regalia to wish him well. They know that when he gets out of prison he'll still be a force to be reckoned with in NJ politics and they made sure to stay on his good side.

It's the ultimate culture of corruption and it's just the way things are done here in New Jersey.
