News Ticker WidgetPut down the knife, don't carve that pumpkin, or the planet will die.
How scary are your jack-o'-lanterns? Scarier than you think, according to the Energy Department, which claims the holiday squash is responsible for unleashing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Most of the 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkins produced in the U.S. end up in the trash, says the Energy Department's website, becoming part of the "more than 254 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) produced in the United States every year."
Municipal solid waste decomposes into methane, "a harmful greenhouse gas that plays a part in climate change, with more than 20 times the warming effect of carbon dioxide," Energy says.
Nobody tell Linus van Pelt, he'll have to stop believing in the Great Pumpkin.
And since Smashing Pumpkins is already taken, wouldn't Methane Marauders be a great name for a rock band?
Hey, remember that guy Gallagher who was always pulverizing pumpkins with a giant sledge hammer back in the 1970s? I guess he single-handedly averted an ice age and caused global warming!
OK, look, the ridiculousness of the climate alarmists is getting out of hand. Pumpkins? Seriously? They're really going to tell us to stop carving pumpkins? Or the seas will rise and the glaciers will melt and Al Gore will cry?
I think I'll chance it.

Yeah, he really said it. He really said "I'm not going to 'take everyone's guns away.'"
President Obama on Tuesday dismissed the notion that he is seeking to take away people's firearms as he delivered his latest call for stronger gun laws.
Speaking to police chiefs in Chicago, Obama sought to rebut the argument made by conservatives, which he said is designed to stoke fear.
"Some of you are watching certain television stations or listening to certain radio programs, please do not believe this notion that somehow I'm out to take everyone's guns away," he told the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
"Every time a mass shootings happens, one of the saddest ironies is suddenly the purchase of guns and ammunition jumps up because folks scared into thinking that, 'Obama's gonna use this as an excuse to take away our Second Amendment rights,'" he added. "Nobody's doing that."
"We're talking about common-sense measures to make criminals don't get them, to make sure background checks work, to make sure that we're protecting ourselves."
Of course he's lying.
Remember, "if you like your plan you can keep your plan?"
Or, "if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor?"
And, "I'll reduce premiums by $2,500 dollars per year?"
How'd those promises work out for you?
He also "wasn't going" to force you to buy health insurance either. So have you made your Shared Responsibility Payment yet?
And are you detecting a pattern here?
Is the Obama White House "the most transparent administration in history?" (Not by a long shot!) Can you detect more than a "smidgeon" of corruption? (I can!)
Did he close Guantanamo Bay?
How many "shovel ready projects" have you seen in your neighborhood?
Is the deficit reduced by half? (Hint: He just demanded, and got, another $1.5 trillion dollar increase in the national debt.)
Did he just sent troops into Syria? Do you recall him promising not to do that?
I could go on. And on. And on.
Lies upon lies upon lies. Because everything Obama says is a lie, including "and" and "the."
So when Obama says he's not going to confiscate our guns you can be sure of only one thing. Obama is going to confiscate our guns. Guaranteed.
His track record speaks for itself.
And so I'll tell you this. When Obama comes for my guns he's going to have to pry them from my cold, dead hands. I will not stand by and allow a tyrant to disarm me, or my fellow Americans. Not without a fight. The Second Amendment means something, and if a supposed "consitutional scholar" hasn't yet figured out what that something is, I'll be glad to explain it to him.
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

One in two working Americans earn less than $30,000 dollars per year.
Fifty-one percent of working Americans make less than $30,000 a year, new data from the Social Security Administration (SSA) shows.
That's $2,500 a month before taxes and just over the federal poverty level for a family of five. The new numbers come from the National Wage Index, which SSA updates each year based on reported wages subject to the federal income tax.
And that's the good news. Because if Hillary Clinton becomes president, she'll import millions more illegal aliens, who'll gladly work for half that.
Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, pledging to go "beyond President Obama" in embracing illegal immigrants, said that she will use executive powers as president to go around Congress to end deportations.
She'll boldly go where no Obama has gone before. But not in a good way.
Because illegal aliens depress wages, especially for people on the lower end of the socio-economic scale. And you don't have to take my word for that fact either. It says so, right there in The New York Times. And, although he'd probably like to forget he did it, a fellow named Barack Obama, made the very same point back in 2006.
Of course, as president he's been pretty much the champion of Trickle Up Poverty, so him going against his earlier assertion isn't as surprising as you'd expect.
And after all, given that Obama is arguably the president from Goldman Sachs, and Hillary promises to "go beyond" him in that department too, trampling the little guy to enrich their cronies is going to be the first plank in the Democratic Party platform for 2016.
The bulk of Clinton's campaign funds came from an elite, wealthy class of donors—those who can afford to give the maximum donation. In 2014, roughly 0.04 percent of Americans made the maximum donation for a primary campaign of $2,600 (adjusted to $2,700 in this election cycle). … Clinton may well have had 250,000 donors—but just 11,400 of them accounted for almost two-thirds of her total fundraising.
All those wealthy democrats need gardeners and housekeepers dontcha know.
Keeping all of you poor and dependent on the government? That's just an
added bonus.

Of course we expected nothing less.
The U.S. Department of Justice informed lawmakers on Friday that its closing the two-year investigation into whether the IRS improperly targeted conservative groups. There will be no charges filed against ex-IRS employee Lois Lerner — or anyone else for that matter.
In a letter obtained by CNN, Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik claimed the investigation found "substantial evidence of mismanagement, poor judgment and institutional inertia leading to the belief by many tax-exempt applicants that the IRS targeted them based on their political viewpoints. But poor management is not a crime."
"We found no evidence that any IRS official acted based on political, discriminatory, corrupt, or other inappropriate motives that would support a criminal prosecution," the letter added.
They also were unable to determine whether or not water is wet.
BTW fellas, Contempt of Congress is a crime. You could look it up.
And why did she plead the Fifth? Multiple times? That sort of implies she thinks she was guilty of something, doesn't it?
See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil. Unless thou art a Republican, then they throw the book at you.
Obama's DOJ would make John Mitchell blush. Because when it comes to liberal / progressive Democrats, the ends always justify the means. Lois Lerner is a good soldier who helped her boss get re-elected. And so she'll now be rewarded for her treachery.
Interestingly they decided to tell us this on a Friday afternoon while everyone is talking about Hillary and Benghazi. It's almost as if they're not really proud of themselves, so they'll quietly let this story die, and slink back into the bowels of the bureaucracy, never to be held accountable for anything.
It's the Chicago Way.

Obama wants to use your tax dollars to bail out Puerto Rico, where nobody pays federal income taxes.
With Puerto Rico buried in debt and on course to completely run out of money by the end of the year, the Obama administration is urging Congress to take unprecedented action to help the island, including granting a type of bankruptcy protection unavailable to the nation's 50 states.
The administration said the broader bankruptcy protection, which would be available only to territories but not fiscally pressed states, is needed to help Puerto Rico avert a mushrooming crisis and restructure its $73 billion in debt.
The island will soon "face the unenviable and difficult choice between repaying its debts and maintaining vital public services," the administration said in a statement and 10-page fact sheet released Wednesday evening. "The latest reliable estimates reveal that, without further steps, Puerto Rico will not have the resources to pay for both."
Puerto Rico is the poster child for wasteful government spending, bloated bureaucracy, and inefficient, archaic central planning run amok. Oh, and did I mention that no one on the island pays federal income taxes? That doesn't stop them from claiming tax credits, of course. And so Obama wants us to send more of those down there too.
In addition to urging Congress to offer Puerto Rico the new type of bankruptcy protection, the administration is also recommending that Congress broaden access to the island's Medicaid program, a move that would pump money into its teetering health-care system. It also wants the island workers to have access to a broader array of federal tax credits, including the earned-income tax credit, in an effort to pump up its dismal 40 percent labor force participation rate.
Typical Democrat. Throw more money at people who've already proven they can't wisely use the money they already have. Puerto Rico, like every other liberal progressive shithole in America doesn't have a revenue problem, they have a spending and regulatory problem.
The debt is just the symptom of the problem. The real underlying issue is the Island government's addiction to spending—a habit which produces $6 billion dollar deficits per year and a government centered economic model which leads to stunted growth. To put it into perspective, even if the island completely defaulted on its roughly $3 billion dollar per year debt service payments, this still does not address half of the deficit problem.
This is what scares financial markets and undermines the credibility of the government. This is why there are several other jurisdictions that have much higher debt to GDP ratios than Puerto Rico and still have better credit ratings than the Island.
And as always, the solution is less government.
If we are going to help them, there is a sane way to do it. Dismantle the current government apparatus that is costly and ineffective as a first step. Then, we should simultaneously implement real and strong free market reforms that open up the economy and lead to robust growth and job creation. Finally, a new independent mechanism should be created to manage the debt, based on a collaboration between the government of Puerto Rico and the US, in order to restore investor confidence and allow the island's government to regain access to the financial markets.
None of which involves throwing money down a rathole. Puerto Rico needs tough
love, not bailouts. Let's hope Congress agrees.

Joe Biden finally realized he's not nearly kooky enough, nor mendacious enough, to compete with Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.
Vice President Biden announced Wednesday that he will not run for president, ending feverish speculation over his 2016 plans.
Speaking in the Rose Garden alongside his wife Jill and President Obama, Biden said the window of opportunity to mount a viable campaign "has closed."
"Unfortunately I believe we're out of time, the time necessary to mount a winning campaign for the nomination," Biden said.
Translation? The loony left wasn't planning to get on board his train, and without them nobody can win the Democratic Party nomination.
It's essentially the same rational that led Jim Webb to hang up his hat earlier this week — no adults need apply.
Not that the Republicans are doing any better in that department, because Donald Trump is still leading their pack, with neophyte lightweight Ben Carson firmly in second place.
So, are you ready for Hillary vs Trump?

Second Amendment? What Second Amendment?
Hillary Clinton said Friday that mandatory gun buy-back programs like ones in Australia are "worth looking into," sparking criticism that the Democratic presidential front-runner would, if elected, impose gun-confiscation efforts.
Clinton made the comments during a campaign stop in Keene, N.H., when an attendee asked about Australia's 1996 and 2003 buy-back programs that collected roughly 700,000 banned semi-automatic rifles and other firearms.
"I think it would be worth considering doing it on the national level, if that could be arranged," Clinton responded.
There you have it. No nuance. No obfuscation. Plain and simple: Mandatory gun buy-back, ie confiscation. That's her goal.
Say goodbye to freedom. Say goodbye to individual rights. Say goodbye to America. President Hillary would follow in the footsteps of every totalitarian dictator who's gone before her. Stalin. Hitler. Pol Pot. Mao. Fidel. Kim.
And when she's disarmed us, then she can control us. Completely. As in, get in the boxcar, comrade, it's for your own good.
No thanks Hillary. You're wrong on the supposed benefits of Australia's gun confiscation, and you're wrong for America.

The reality of Obamacare continues to underperform the promises of Obamacare.
Today we learn of two more states that are shuttering their money-losing Obamacare co-ops.
Two nonprofit health insurers set up under ObamaCare announced on Friday that they are shutting down, the latest in a string of closures due to financial problems.
The closure of the two health insurers in Colorado and Oregon means that just 15 of the original 23 co-ops will remain in business next year.
The news comes after announcements on Wednesday that Tennessee's co-op is shutting down and last Friday that Kentucky's co-op would shutter.
November 1 marks the start of next year's enrollment period. So with barely two weeks to go, customers of these co-ops will have to scramble to find new coverage.
But remember, if you like your plan, you can keep your plan.
Wanna guess why these co-ops failed?
They ran out of Other People's Money!
Many of the beleaguered co-ops have blamed low payouts from an ObamaCare program known as risk corridors. That program was designed to protect insurers against heavy losses by collecting money from insurers doing well and giving it to insurers faring poorly. But the Obama administration announced on Oct. 1 that the program had only taken in enough funds to pay out 12.6 percent of the $2.87 billion that insurers had requested.
They charged below-market premiums to attract customers, and the customers they attracted turned out to be older and sicker than they wanted them to be. Then, in typical Obama fashion, the unicorns didn't ride in at the 11th hour to save the day.
Oops.

In the Archdiocese of Newark, Catholic doctrine is unambiguous.
In sweeping language, Newark Archbishop John J. Myers has instructed Catholics not to seek Communion or other sacraments if they "publicly reject" church teachings, and he advises the faithful to avoid events supporting people or organizations who don't follow church doctrine.
The archbishop distributed the statement of principles in a letter to priests last Friday at a time when bishops handpicked by Pope Francis are meeting in Rome to discuss allowing divorced and remarried couples to receive Communion. And it comes weeks after Francis' U.S. tour in which he reinforced a spirit of embracing all Catholics, even who don't or haven't always adhered to church teachings.
Gee, they make it sound like the pope isn't Catholic. Or maybe it's Abp. Myers who's suddenly out of touch?
Neither statement is true, of course. And if people were properly Catechised, we wouldn't be having this dicussion. Alas, there's no much horsepucky out there, and so many instances of lapsed doctrine, that Abp. Myers' letter is sadly necessary.
While a Newark archdiocese spokesman said the letter marked "no significant change," at least one Catholic expert said that if it is followed literally, it could be applied broadly to the political and public lives of any Catholic, even those who don't quarrel with hot-button social issues such as gay marriage, abortion and contraceptive use.
For example, the expert said, devout Catholics could run afoul of the principles by attending their child's same-sex wedding.
In his letter, titled "Principles to Aid in Preserving and Protecting the Catholic Faith in the Midst of an Increasingly Secular Culture," Myers wrote that Catholics and non-Catholics should not receive the sacraments if they reject church teachings, "either by public statements or by joining or supporting organizations which do so."
He also asserted that Catholics should not participate in or even attend events "intended to support those who reject or ignore church teaching and canon law."
Welcome to Catholicism 101. I'll be your instructor this evening. Please take notes.
Newsflash. If you attend a same-sex "wedding," you've committed a sin. If you publicly advocate for same-sex "marriage," you have engaged in scandal. (Yes, "scandal," as defined by the Church, is a sin.)
If you have an abortion, or help procure an abortion, or use contraception, or dispense contraception, or encourage your child to use contraception, you've committed a sin. If you are a politician who supports abortion or contraception, or a person who votes for or donates to a politician who supports abortion or contraception, you are likewise engaged in scandal.
If you're a Catholic who put that rainbow doohickey on their Facebook profile, guess what, you've committed public scandal.
And if you were married in the Church, got a divorce, and then remarried, yup, you're living in sin. If you're having sexual relations outside of marriage, yup again, you're committing a sin.
Now you can keep doing all those things. God gave you free will. You can even call yourself Catholic, and I hope you will. And I also pray that you'll one day see the error of your ways and accept all the teachings of Holy Mother Church.
But, and this is important so pay attention, while you are committing sins, while you are engaging in public scandal, in fact any time you are not in a state of Grace, there is one thing that you absolutely may not do.
You may not receive Holy Communion.
Really.
The sacrament of the Eucharist is not, despite what you've erroneously been led to believe, "come one, come all."
Your heart must be pure. Your soul must be clean. Your conscience must be clear. That is known as the state of Grace. Then, and only then, may you present yourself for Holy Communion.
But Chris!, but Chris!, I hear you cry, nobody is perfect! And everybody gets up for Communion every Sunday!
I know, and don't get me started on that. This is between you and me. Not me and all those other guys. Leave them out of it, for now.
Because fortunately, there is a very easy way for you, and me, and all those other guys too, to get straight with the Lord and His Church.
Go to Confession.
That's it. That's the one thing you have to do. And then you can receive Holy Communion.
Unless…
C'mon, you knew there was gonna be a catch, right?
Unless, you persist in repeating the very sin(s) you confessed.
You can't just waltz in there and tell Father you've been a bad boy because you always steal your brother's ice cream, go to Communion feeling all good about yourself, and then on the car ride home steal your brother's ice cream again. Especially if you do it every Sunday. God's gonna know you aren't serious. And if you're not serious, the Holy Spirit isn't going to cleanse your soul, and you won't have Absolution, so your confession isn't valid, and no, you can't receive Holy Communion.
That in a nutshell, is what Archbishop Myers is saying.
You can't keep publicly endorsing same-sex "marriage," or abortion, or contraception, or any other sin, and privately pretend to "confess" your sins just so you can receive Holy Communion.
And if your parish priest knows you're publicly promoting sin (perhaps because you're Nancy Pelosi, to use one example) he is required to deny you the sacrament of Holy Communion. Which will be obvious to everyone at Mass. And embarrassing to you. So don't try, OK?
That's it. That's the one thing you can't do.
You can still come to Mass. You should come to Mass! No one will tell you to get out. No one will "reject" you. We're all sinners here. And what we want, and what we hope you'll want too, is to do our level best to avoid sin, and temptation, and scandal.
When you think about it, that's the part Pope Francis is emphasizing. Come back, see what you've been missing. Ease into it. Because you don't have to be perfect to come into the Church. And there's more to the Mass than just receiving Holy Communion. Being in the presence of the Lord is, well, electrifying, among other things. Clarifying. Calming. Soothing. Healing. Liberating. And more. So very much more.
But I think that's enough for today.
And yes, I know you still have questions.
Please do me a favor first. Reread this post. Think about it. Pray on it. Open your heart to the Holy Spirit.
I'll be praying for you.
Amen.

Human life, now discounted for quick sale.
Planned Parenthood announced Tuesday that it will no longer accept any reimbursement as part of its fetal tissue donation program, taking its strongest step yet to end the onslaught of conservative attacks against the group.
The group's president Cecile Richards disclosed the policy change in a letter to the National Institutes of Health, which she said was intended to "take away any basis for attacking Planned Parenthood to advance an anti-abortion political agenda."
Proving yet again that these monsters place absolutely no value whatsoever on human life. Which they totally weren't selling anyhow, but to "prove" it, they'll now give away sliced and diced baby parts for free.
Of course there are still costs involved. So "who pays?" is a valid question.
My guess is, taxpayers. Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi have undoubtedly
already assured Cecile Mengele Richards that they'll gleefully
stick us with the bill.
I wonder if this issue will come up during CNN's septuagenarian sideshow toight?
Probably not! Because making a Democrat actually go on the record endorsing
hacking up babies just isn't something the palace guard media would ever do.

On Friday, the Obama Administration officially announced the end of its spectacularly unsuccessful $500 million plan to train and equip moderate Syrian rebels. . . .
This latest decision is the most obvious manifestation of what Obama Administration officials have been telling the press for the past few days: the plan for Syria, in light of Russia's intervention, is to do nothing to escalate the situation. There are no plans to send anti-aircraft weapons to moderate rebels being hit by Russian air strikes, for example. Eli Lake and Josh Rogin write that some White House advisors are even encouraging the President "to give up on toppling the Syrian regime."
In Obama's America, we "give up."
But don't worry, he's still leading on the important stuff.
When CBS host Steve Kroft questioned Obama about Russia president Vladimir Putin, the topic quickly turned to climate change.
"He's challenging your leadership, Mr. President," Kroft said, of Putin.
And Obama's reply: "I got to tell you, if you think that running your economy into the ground and having to send troops in, in order to prop up your only ally is leadership, then we've got a different definition of leadership. My definition of leadership would be leading on climate change and [an] international accord that potentially would get in Paris."
In other words, Obama will fight World War III with windmills and solar panels.
And not for nothing, but he's one to talk about "running your economy into the ground." I guess because he's just so gosh-darned good at it, right?
Besides, "the community of nations" will rise up and defeat ISIS. Any day now. Presumably with carbon credits.
I suppose all that's left now is for him to give his last SOTU in Arabic.
Then the capitulation will be complete.

Steal a big screen TV to combat racism!
A prominent Black Lives Matter activist has offered a defense of violent looters who plundered U.S. cities like Ferguson and Baltimore in a lecture series delivered at Yale.
DeRay McKesson, 30, was invited to the prestigious school to lecture on the movement, which began in earnest after unarmed black teen Michael Brown was killed by a white cop in Ferguson. Missouri.
McKesson was hired for a two-part series, and as part of the preparation for the for-credit course at Yale's School of Divinity, he told students to read an article which describes looting as a 'righteous tactic'.
When challenged on his inclusion of the material by Fox News, McKesson doubled down by drawing a comparison between looters and patriots at the Boston Tea Party.
He told the news outlet: 'The relationship and tension between protest and property destruction is something that America has grappled with since the Revolutionary War and the Boston Tea Party.'
'The reading... allowed us to explore all sides of the American historical relationships and tensions present in protest.'
The statement implies the recent looters, who caused millions of dollars of damage and were roundly criticized by political leaders, are part of the same tradition as the Sons of Liberty, who launched the Tea Party protest and eventually ushered in an independent United States.
Free Stuff Matters!
Which, of course, is the heart and soul of progressive politics, from FDR to Lyndon Johnson to Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton. So I guess it's refreshing to hear someone say it so clearly. Usually they obfuscate, talking about a "living wage" or a "helping hand" or "public assistance," occasionally lapsing into "wealth redistribution."
Well then, looting is the ultimate in "wealth redistribution," isn't it?
Take what you want, when you want, how you want. And why not? There were no consequences. No one was arrested. No property was reclaimed. Sure, most of the destroyed businesses didn't rebuild, but that's no skin off Mr. McKesson's back; he's moved on up to a cushy sinecure at Yale.
But please, spare us the sanctimony.
To believe that the looters in Ferguson who walked off with TV's, food, drugs, and liquor are the same as the patriots who dumped British tea into Boston Harbor might be the most idiotic analogy I've ever heard. Those looters in Ferguson, Baltimore and elsewhere were uninterested in politics and totally concerned with their own personal gratification.
If Black Lives Really Matter, where are the protests in Chicago and Newark and Detroit and Camden? Black lives are snuffed out there with alarming regularity. Oh, right, they're being killed by other Black people, so their deaths can't be so easily exploited to advance a false narrative of police brutality and racism.
Instead, the hypocritical world of progressive politics somehow postulates that the Black killers of other Blacks are the Real Victims, because, wait for it, racism, or poverty, or something.
And in Mr. McKesson's group's worldview the cure is revolution. Which I
suppose is how he came to adopt that inane analogy with the Boston Tea Party.
Sadly though, their revolution is intended to resemble the trainwreck of
Zimbabwe built on the ashes of Rhodesia rather than the greatness of America
erected by our forefathers on the foundation of equality.

It's not just your imagination, the Obama Administration isn't deporting anybody.
The Obama administration deported the fewest number of immigrants in the past 12 months since 2006, according to government figures obtained by The Associated Press.
The figures also show that deportations of criminal immigrants have dropped to the lowest numbers since President Barack Obama took office in 2009, despite his pledge to focus on finding and deporting criminals living in the country illegally.
Obama lied? I'll bet you're as shocked to learn that as I was.
The biggest surprise in the figures was the decline in criminal deportations. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson last year directed immigration authorities anew to focus on finding and deporting immigrants who pose a national security or public safety threat, those who have serious criminal records or those who recently crossed the Mexican border. The decline suggests the administration has been failing to find criminal immigrants in the U.S. interior.
Kate Steinle was unavailable for comment.
And I think we can all agree that the words "failing to find" in that paragraph above are a euphemism for "not bothering to look." Because, as you may have heard, he's currently busy importing ISIS thugs into our heartland, so there's no time to weed out the rapists and murderers wading across the Southern border.
Then, in what has to be a world record for obfuscation, Hillary Clinton came out yesterday and criticized Obama's deportation policies as "too harsh."
Hillary Clinton distanced herself from President Barack Obama's immigration policies in an interview with the Spanish-language network Telemundo, accusing the White House of breaking up families through an aggressive deportation policy.
Her comments echoed long-running complaints of the immigration advocacy community that Mr. Obama's immigration policy has been overly harsh. But they stand in contrast to comments Mrs. Clinton made in June 2014 defending the Obama policy, where she said the president was doing all he could within the law to keep families together. They also appeared to ignore changes in deportation policy that Mr. Obama ordered in late 2014.
Pandering! And hypocrisy. They're par for Hillary's course.
Speaking to Telemundo, the Democratic presidential candidate criticized Mr. Obama's policy but said his approach was part of a strategy aimed at winning over Republicans to support immigration legislation legalizing people in the U.S. illegally.
"The deportation laws were interpreted and enforced, you know, very aggressively during the last six and a half years, which I think his administration did in part to try to get Republicans to support comprehensive immigration reform," she said. "That strategy is no longer workable. So therefore I think we have to go back to being a much less harsh and aggressive enforcer."
Unbelievable. Obama is barely deporting anyone, and Hillary now says she'll do even less to stem the tidal wave of illegal immigration.
Why have borders at all?
Maybe we should ask
the Hungarians about that.

Minority and youth unemployment is Essex County is higher than both the New Jersey and national averages. So naturally the brain trust on our Freeholder Board has decided the cure for that problem is to mandate a $15 per hour minimum wage.
Local government officials are getting in on the statewide debate over pay rates. The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders last week became the first freeholder board in the state to pass a resolution urging state officials to bump New Jersey's minimum wage up to $15 an hour, county officials have confirmed.
The board voted unanimously on Sept. 30 to pass the resolution, which calls on state legislators and the governor to support legislation that would up the minimum wage from its current $8.38 an hour.
"Many people (work) hard every day and still cannot afford the basic necessities in life such as food, housing, transportation, child care," Freeholder President Britnee N. Timberlake said in a statement about the vote.
"How is it that the cost of everything seems to be increasing...but when the topic of raising the minimum wage to a living wage is discussed, there are people who do not agree?"
The stupid, it burns.
Hey Britnee, did anyone in Community Organizer School ever tell you that wages are a huge contributor to "the cost of everything?" Seeing as how you keep approving higher wages for the unionistas in county government, and then jacking up my taxes to pay for those raises, you might have, at least once, put 2 and 2 together. I mean, that is if you ever bothered to try thinking instead of pandering.
Now pay attention, and meet the future:
Because all the platitudes in the world aren't going to make it worth any company's while to pay $15 per hour to an unskilled entry-level worker. And without the benefit of that first job, usually fresh out of high school, there's zero chance your constituents will gain the skills needed to move up and get themselves a job that pays a "living wage."
Technology marches on Britnee. And it's uninformed do-gooders like you who accelerate the process.
But don't take my word for it. Listen to economist Dr. Thomas Sowell. Pay attention to what he has to say.
"It would be comforting to believe that the government can simply decree higher pay for low-wage workers, without having to worry about unfortunate repercussions, but the preponderance of evidence indicates that labor is not exempt from the basic economic principle that artificially high prices cause surpluses. In the case of the surplus of human beings, that can be a special tragedy when they are already from low-income, unskilled or minority backgrounds and urgently need to get on the job ladder, if they are ever to move up the ladder by acquiring experience and skills."
Then stop tilting at windmills and do something that will actually help produce more good jobs. Encourage new business creation by removing roadblocks to success. Cut taxes. Eliminate regulations. Give employers a reason to come into Essex County instead of incentives to beat feet for less oppressive climes.
Of course that'll require hard work on your part, and guts, which is something
you and your Freeholder friends seem to have in short supply. So I won't hold
my breath.

Guess what? We just had another "recovery summer" that wasn't. I think that makes 7 in a row now…
The U.S. added 142,000 new jobs in September, a disappointing figure the Federal Reserve will be closely scrutinizing as it mulls the first rate hike in nearly a decade.
The headline unemployment rate held steady 5.1%. Economists had forecast 203,000 new jobs and that the unemployment rate would remain at 5.1%.
So their forecasts were off by 30%, but somehow, magically the unemployment rate remains unchanged?
How's that work?
A record 94,610,000 Americans were not in the American labor force last month — an increase of 579,000 from August — and the labor force participation rate reached its lowest point in 38 years, with 62.4 percent of the U.S. population either holding a job or actively seeking one.
…In September, according to the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the nation's civilian noninstitutional population, consisting of all people 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, reached 251,325,000. Of those, 156,715,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one.
The 156,715,000 who participated in the labor force equaled only 62.4 percent of the 251,325,000 civilian noninstitutional population. The last time the labor force participation was as low as 62.4 percent was in October 1977.
Notice the sharp downtrend over the last 7 years:
And, in case you were hoping that things might turn around any day now, sorry, but Obama just enacted The Most Expensive Environmental Regulation In The History Of The Universe.
The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday tightened the federal ozone standard, dismissing the concerns of powerful business groups and setting off a regulatory and legal fight that will last for the remainder of President Obama's time in office.
The agency's updated ozone regulations lower the standard from 75 parts per billion (ppb) to 70 parts per billion.
Business groups, which had pushing the administration to keep the standard at its current 75 ppb level, say the regulations will be the most expensive in U.S. history, siphoning as much as $3.4 trillion out of the economy over the next two decades.
"Today, the Obama administration finalized a rule that is overly burdensome, costly and misguided," National Association of Manufacturers CEO Jay Timmons said in a statement. "For months, the administration threatened to impose on manufacturers an even harsher rule, with even more devastating consequences. After an unprecedented level of outreach by manufacturers and other stakeholders, the worst-case scenario was avoided. However, make no mistake: The new ozone standard will inflict pain on companies that build things in America — and destroy job opportunities for American workers. Now it's time for Congress to step up and take a stand for working families."
The worst part? Obama knows it's a job-killer, and he doesn't care.
Lawmakers of both parties object to the change, and even President Obama has conceded that the ozone rules could bring economic consequences.
He's sacrificing your job, and your family's future, on the altar of Globull Warming.
I forget, is that the "hope," or the "change?"
